It started in Mordred's Rest. Spates of murders gone almost entirely undealt with or uninvestigated by the Knights. Growing dissent and anger even. Do they even care?
But the problem was larger than the dismissive inaction of a few who claimed to protect. The Empire, built on the foundations of power, has other safeguards againt mystical threats. The Inquisition, overseers of threats mystical and otherworldly, that institution exists to ensure that the very fabric of our reality remains intact, that Primus itself stays strong. But where were they? Without guidance, without direction. Ineffective. So, what might just have been some deaths was greater than the sum. A supernatural, otherworldly threat that was allowed to fester at the heart of the Empire, a fragment of ancient Ruin left to break down the barriers between worlds. And no one... not one person, even tried to stop it. That said, had it just been Mordred's Rest, perhaps it would not have been so bad. But it was everywhere, the miasma between worlds creeping in through a thousand cuts. Hundreds of smaller acts left unchecked. A demon sighting unreported, a Nacht breach left unsealed, the denizens of other worlds left to roam and spread their disturbances. Primal Strength across the Empire was torn down, and there was no one to keep it in check. The Inquisition had failed, without leadership and without direction, the Empire had been left weak. Exposed. The tendrils of horror and hate breached the walls of Primus, bringing terror to the streets of the Empire. Not all was so bleak. Other places, Ishma, the Baronies, Amlas, those that had their own safety checks that had not languished, they remained strong. But the Empire, home of the Throne of Glass, the heart of Primus, that is where it truly mattered. And the outcomes for the world were bleak indeed. -------------------- Will Power - will@labyrinthe.co.uk
