Dear Brothers, Sisters

I am enquiring into the leadership of the Church with the recent passing of Lithmore.

When I supported Mortai through the namer there was no one else interested in the position, however I would not assume such is the case now.

Is an election called for?

Personally I don't feel the need for a high priest and am happy to wait until Lithmore returns. In his extended or permanent absence I would support Squire, or then yourself to take the role. I myself serve Lady Shaehan as much as Lord Mortai these days (as, it must be said, it was when all this started 25 years ago) and in any case have other duties.

Dear Halvor,

As I understand it, Lithmore has already turned on the wheel and has returned.

Since my time with the church, Lithmore has turned the wheel twice and it was my understand that when such an event occurred, we normally waited for his return or it was determined he would not return.

Thankfully he has always been returned to us after spending time at our Lord's side. I also believe that Lithmore has returned recently, this time more swiftly then the previous absence, though I have yet to see this for myself or hear from him but he continues to receive my full support.

That is good news; I am pleased to hear he has returned with us, and hope that he is still a man of strong faith.

The reason I asked is that I recently hit the mercenary circuit to see what had changed in recent years, and was surprised that there was no promotional material available or proclamations about our faith evident along with the other churches or guilds. This is one of a number of duties I feared may have lapsed unnoticed with Lithmore absent.

In which case I await his response.

Promotional materials?

Do we really need to advertise our faith like some trading house? Those deserving of our Lord will find him. Lithmore has been a devoted leader to the faith and it was under his direction that the shrines and temples were rebuilt. Eliane as the Voice of Mortai, Victor as the champion of Mortai and Garath as the Angel of Death are the senior members whilst Lithmore is absent.

Teldor, dearest, I think you do me too much kindness. It is some time since I was able to be active in the mercenary community and, indeed, my new duties mean that it is increasingly unlikely that I shall ever be able to. I would not feel right placing my name amongst those who may be looked to when I so often am needed to attend to my purpose in the mortal world, and thus absent even from Cradletown.

Mortai has ever been a small faith in numbers, and over the last 25 years the faith has already waxed and waned twice. After Mortai achieved full Godhood, he waned after Squire retired, with near dire consequence during the Namer War. That is why I took up arms from my previously pacifist life as a Shallya priest to help rebuild the faith.

Being called to other worlds for what ended up being years on Primus meant I also put the faith at risk; without a clear succession plan, my absence yet again meant the Church became less visible and resulted in it disappearing from the Volksraad.

I was able to somewhat rectify this when I was able to return to Primus briefly to handover the role of High Priest to Lithmore, as he showed great promise. I was saddened to hear he had passed away, and as I have not heard from Lithmore since I am wary that a small lull in leadership may become protracted.

I do not propose hawking the faith like a common market trader. However the nature of faith and the flow of power that the Gods need to survive and perform their roles means that ongoing recruitment to the faith, and preaching of His word is important.

If Lithmore has/is returning and other Church Members are filling the gap then I have no need of concern. However as his Avatar I believe I would be remiss in my duty if I did not ask the question!

Halvor

Halvor,

You have every right to ask what has been done to increase/promote the faith's standing in your absence and be concerned about the church's leadership whilst Lithmore turned the wheel, as has any member of our faith, but perhaps your choice of words was somewhat misplaced or misunderstood.

I don't really see any of the other churches of goodly faiths generating promotional material or making proclamations, as normally the best way to attract new members or promote the teaching of Mortai is through our actions and remaining active within areas of need and the mercenary community.

Under Lithmore's leadership, the church has done just that and seen its numbers increase and the faith's reach broaden greatly. Whilst our number is not as great as some faiths, we remain in the public eye through heping those in need, taking up arms when necessary and tackling the threats made against Primus and its people.

In recent years, to name but a few of the faith's accomplishments, the church has shined like a beacon of light through its actions in the Bildteve Highlands, helped in the building Cradletown and dealt with many of Noble Houses there. The church saw to the fulfilment of Lord Wetherlaine's legacy with the help of Lady Almarissa Wetherlaine and the rite of Shoravall, which saw a great rite of purification and cleansing washing across Primius and freeing those willing from the taint of undeath. Members have played great roles in tackling threats across Primus and other planes, the attempted cleanse of Zombie Isles, dealing with Cael’a’Ten and his acolytes, freeing Tapestry and giving Allockra a chance at redemption, and most recently the Cult of the Dark Phoenix.

Your own actions on Leslirath will have also increased our standing.

We have also made many friends and allies whilst doing so.

Lithmore fell on 11 Octuar and the church has gone through a period of mourning his death as you would expect, and considering my own and other mercenaries premature and untimely returns from the wheel of life as a result of the interference of the Cult of the Dark Phoenix, I believe we all hoped Lithmore would return as quickly as our Lord allowed so there appeared no need to worry or be concerned about the church and its leadership. Plans were put into place to ensure those seeking our help or advice in Lithmore's absence were provided for and thankfully our High Priest will be seen out and about shortly.

The church is due to travel again on 16 Maii, with members of the In Purity guild and allies & friends of the church so if you are at all free you should travel with us and see you were right to see great promise in Lithmore and see how he has grown and filled the role of our High Priest.

In Purity,

Victor Somas

Victor speaks well; by your continued deeds will the faith grow strong. I would not judge a faith by its mercenary strength alone; the faith is well followed among the common people and grows each passing year. Of all the faiths this church has gathered comparatively often in recent years, which is testament enough.

As you have mentioned it in passing, I should let you know that through your actions the Herald of the Impossible Dream lives on and that he survived the dawn.

Arvalath,

That is wonderful news! Let us hope the Herald continues working strongly for the powers of light and stories of his good deeds are heard widely.

In Purity,

Victor.

Many thanks Arvaleth...whilst I would have liked to have seen every trace of that monstrosity consigned to Oblvion; the saving and redemption of this entity was what our Lord would have wanted. Mercy has been shown and salvation granted.

Halvor, I look forward to meeting with you and fighting alongside you over the coming year. It will be good to welcome you back in to the fold. Although I started my mercenary career back in the Second Age I only came to the faith in the last 6 years or so. I would welcome stories of the horrors and atrocities defeated by the faith in our Lord.
