... that if someone's username is not clearly identifying them (for example there is only one Jan) then they put their name in their sig?

Its becoming more and more frustrating not knowing who is saying what, some opinions are annoying me, and whilst those people are fine to have opinions which i dont agree with, at least knowing who is saying them means i can smile or grimace at the relevant people at the caves each time.

Is this possible?

It would help.
I think looking at the member lists there are some random code-usernames that have never posted :S

However how would you enforce it? Are there any forum punishments?

You could change peoples user names for one thing, or suspend their posting rights, but I am pretty sure that people would work with the plan once they thought about it.

Yes it can be very annoying not knowing who you are discussing a topic with

I think it was mentioned somewhere (perhaps Stickied - although I havent Looked tongue.gif ) That It was common courtesy and part of the etiquette of these forums to sign your posts with your name - although this was never made an actual rule ....

Perhaps it might be necessary to remove the screenname option and merely make your registered full name your screen name

Or we can just remind people constantly to sign their posts......

Shame, I wonder it can be reconsidered.

Well, this is the forum for that kind of thing - will see what happens smile.gif

I think the argument against was that some people had been put off using the old forums because everyone's identity had to be published and they were uncomfortable about saying things if there would be possible real-world repercussions.

That and the fact that young people smile.gif are not supposed to reveal their true identities on the web these days in case they bump into roaming gangs of malefactors.

There is a difference between 'JanM' as a username, compared to 'eatskittenslolzor' though really! and neither specifically allow for the owner to be tracked down and murdered in the real world. One however is identifiable to the people who know them in real life anyway and hit them with sticks at the weekend.

I dont think you are evn supposed to be on public forums if you are under 13 :S

If you read the T&C of many forums/games they wont let under 13's join unless their parents signed a form... Sometimes they even have to fax it in o_O

But seriously there are'nt any people who want to takedown Labbyrinthe players are there? Well... The refs try their best... tongue.gif

Giving out your name is no problem therefore

I for one would like the option to change my username to be available. In my case [and the case for at least one other person] I went with the name of my first character not realizing it couldn’t be changed and for people who haven’t really seen the forum before they may not be aware that it is both more polite and easier to have you name clearly displayed

Just change your sig. you can reach it via 'my controls' and then going about 2/3rds the way down the left hand side.

Also, if people are too desperate to keep their sigs as they are, you could change your "personal statement" which appears below ones forum name if you went to their member profile. That may be a help too.
