In Bildteve we investigated the shop and this led us eventually to the Thieves Guild. We met a confident man who eventually explained we were after Frank, and with further persuasion he let us into their hideaway. A transport rite took us into the fens near a place I noted down as Ty Sog, though I will check this if it becomes important.

We encountered a number of things that felt like tests that were dealt with extremely well by those capable of doing so. Entering the copper mine where the sword seemed to have been hidden. Delving deep, we eventually came upon Hope, the angel who had been pushed from the blade, and the corrupted form of Frank the Fence.

Hope, the Angel, had been bound to the sword. Even without him it had the power to corrupt and it remains a threat until Long Thorn performs his day-long ritual to cleanse the artefact. We rendered the Angel incapable and killed the latter.
This done, the sword was placed in the shroud and returned to Long Thorn courtesy of an Angel called Finder who also took Hope and Frank away. We checked there was no detriment from giving Long Thorn the blade, and we were done.
After some had left, we expended no small power in trying to understand what had happened.

We need to move a little carefully. At least two people dwelt in the mist - Frank the Fence and his hirer. The latter also has the scope to enact retribution on those who seek him.

It seems that there was a deeper reason behind the day’s events. Someone had cast a Rite of Vision to witness what happened when the sword was placed as it was. They were also, though I feel this was an unforeseen benefit to them, able to see us and our capabilities.

The people behind this are a group known as the Lost (not the group you have heard of before). They are a group of people from other lands, seeking to move to Primus. Not all of them are aggressive. They are making plans to move to the area near the Crystal Throne over the next 6-12 months.

We asked whether there was one among them with whom we could have a sensible discussion, and it was suggested that the head of the Order of Refugees may be amenable to such. There are other factions amongst them who are far from friendly and would seek to attack us on sight. Rashid and I will look further, I don’t doubt.

Others have encountered them before, including some who dealt with a beholder, and others from a group called Borderwatch. I will ask for information.

I have passed a copy of this report to Long Thorn and will let you know if he has any more to say.

My thanks to all those we travelled with, especially those who stood in the tide of wrath that wanted to destroy us.

Muninn, Longthorn and all...

Many thanks for your summary - and for the additional information shared. I also have something to share - that I found stashed away with the sword - obviously written by the unseen hand behind this to Frank the Fence. It was a hand written document stating some information which could form the basis of future divinations/leads. Its copied below in full...

"I now require for you to gather any artefacts linking the Nobles of Primus. These can be items they have made or scrolls they have written, some of their clothing, jewellry - or anything they have made. I will pay 1000 grulls plus expenses, so if you had to pay for it I will happily compensate you.

These are the families I need you to collect from -

House Armastas
House Athanyn
House Aurelion
House Cruven
House Dtreal
House De Ville
House Flashblade
House Halgar
House Majius
HouseOmacron
House Saldana
House Stoneheart
House Thell
House White
House Winterhaven

If there are other noble families on the list then I will also pay.

The other easy task is I need a tabard from the city watch of each of the main cities. I will pay 500 grulls for each of them.

When I receive these items and test my theory I will need more items. I will contact you and many others to gather the items for me."

..apologies it wasn't shared yesterday, however I had other duties to attend to. This "theory" alluded to in the note worries me - but I can see how useful the watch tabbards could be to a group of non primal types who are trying to familiarise themselves/somehow worm their way into the lands of the Empire.

I was there when the beholder was tracked.

Obviously it was my four disruption glyphs that led to its final death.

Bartimeaus

You're doing it again, my friend... Can you clarify what came to pass in the events surrounding the beholder that might be relevant to what we are doing?

Rashid and I have worked very hard and managed to unveil a huge amount of further information beyond that already obtained. I set out a brief summary below.

***

There is a City dwelling in its own small plane. It has no name, for to name it would grant much power and such power would be flavoured by the name. This is a concept I am most familiar with. Let us refer to it by the inhabitants therefore, as the City of the Lost.

The policy of the current leaders is to subsist on the small amount of farming it can manage, but mostly from raiding other planes for resources and slaves. The Spirit of the City reflects this natures, and feeds on power stolen from other lands. It is worshipped as a god by the Lost, along with many diverse others.

In the short term they are seeking artefacts with a strong connection to Primus, I presume to build a bridge to our lands. Their current policy is, I fear, to seek to raid Primus enslave our people or kill them and take all we have for their own use.

There are a number of factions within the city, such as:
  • The Timeless Wardens (who rule as nobles. They are kin to Ancient Folk and are ritually warded from scrying)
  • The Order of Three (who command the Military)
  • The Searchers (who seek out new places to invade and raid)
  • The Warriors of the Breach (who are the expeditionary shock troops used to invade new planes)
  • The Twisted Court (who summon creatures for their bidding)
  • The Silver Council (people who betrayed their own lands, and are given roles in the City as a prize)
  • The Guardians of the Towers (ritually empowered guards of the city who die if they leave it)
  • The Order of Refugees (who deal with new citizens and allocate them to roles)
  • The Deathwalkers (Necromancers who dwell in the sewers binding the dead to their will)
We have further information about each of these organisations, such as their leaders and abilities, which I will compile and send to those who are interested.

Of note is that there is some discord amongst the people of the City that the way of the raider is the right way to live. In particular, Tanat Kaden, leader of the Order of Refugees is unhappy with the trail of destruction and despair being left by the City's agents.

The City is strongly warded, and transporting between planes without a particular talisman would breach those wards, probably fatally. We could obtain a talisman from the Commanders of the Breach as they attack other planes, or presumably from the Searchers also.

I have shared this information with Long Thorn, but also with the defenders of the Empire. It is a major coup to uncover this much information so early on, and we should ensure we capitalise on our knowledge and use it to guide our strategy.

Thank you Muninn for passing on this information.

Your Raven has been a busy little bird and despite my new headache from an incorrectly worded scry which at least tells us who NOT to ask about I think that we have earned a significant holiday. I am sure that The Master of the punctual ruminant ungulates, will pay for this. Is this incorrect Master?

The other groups have yet to reply to requests for more information. The LOTS group, separately from The Lost, and also the watchers of borders.

The LOTS group referred to the worshippers of the Lady of the Stars.

A beholder was summoned, I can't remember I which city. It had been there for a little time, and a cult had sprung up around the Beholder. The cult worshipped the beholder. The cult itself targeted the first born of families and seduced them into the cult requiring the payment of an artefact as an entrance fee. These arifacts had to be family heirlooms. These would then be used as some sort of Anchor upon primus. These anchors would be used to summon different creatures to primus.

A small noble house had been in-touch with master Longthorn to retrieve a missing heirloom, off we went.

The Beholder was located within a sewer system.

We encountered many drow, some undead and also priests of the watchers eye.

When we meet the head ritualist, he told us he had been hire to some simple elementals but something had gone wrong and it had created the beholder, now one believed this rubbish.

We finally came across the beholder, which was a tough beast, and only seemed to be effected if you were not looking into its main eye.

That is all I really think was important, obviously my slack servant was so late, he missed the whole day so no communications were performed, he's lucky he is unaffected by the pain glyph.

Muninn,

Thank you.

You clearly have a great deal of skill in the scrivening arts! As such, may I offer to assist you rather than wander too far with my own divinations. I can cast the spiritual greater communication several times a day... Please let me know what I can divine about on the groups behalf.

I have some few days further focus on a private matter of great import, but should be able to support fully beyond that time.

I profess no specialist knowledge of the nobility, however the list of Houses from the secret note includes a few that are new to me. Interesting? Or just my ignorance?

There is much we can influence and assist with in all this. I look forward to contributing.
