Ritual War in the First Age

It seems that the nature of man changes little and just as we experienced the Choas Wars towards the end of the Second Age there was a vast ritual war that laid waste to what was then Primus in the First Age, which as we believe may have been smaller than the world we know now.

This Ritual War, like the Choas War, wrought great devastation upon the land to the extent that the powers used to fuel the great rites were being drawn from the very fabric of reality and the world was beginning to crumble. Despite this it seemed that at least some of those factions that fought were blind or uncaring of the destruction they were bringing to the world as they sought dominion over it and their enemies. With the very existence of reality in the balance The Laiu stepped in to protect creation.

The Laiu declared that the War would stop. Some listened, some did not, some saw their folly some did not.

Those who would not stop the Laiu banished from our world, these banished beings became known as The Eth'Aderacht. Those who saw what they had done was wrong and wished to make amends were exiled to a series of islands off the East Coast, the isles of the Gallowglass and they became known simply as The Gallowglass although in their exile they were left alone and over the centuries they undertook a penance to contemplate what they had done and in the process purify their souls. This process lasted a thousand years.

Powerful though the Laiu were they were not able to stop all who fought on their own and to aid them it is said they did two things. Firstly they brought the Nagrech Crystal from its home in Ishma and secondly they taught their disciples and followers certain arts, changing them, transferring power to them, imbuing them with the Sallow blood that allowed them to perform ritual with incredible ease. The descendants of these first disciples, being of course the Sallow Princes and now the Nobles of The Blood.

With the aid of their newly schooled or forged allies the Laiu were able to finish the work of removing the warring factions from Primus. These last few driven off were known as The Shining Ones.

Grey's Law: Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice...
