House Despana was founded by Moraine and Gideon Despana, following their (perfectly accepted and commonplace) separation from Moraine’s mother’s family. The House swiftly drew a number of prominent and competent members, including houseless nobles and experienced commoners.

Notable among the houses of the Drowe city, Despana boasted a large number of psi-drowe in its ranks, a formidable cadre of professional killers, and some of the more feared warriors in the city, including drider weapons-masters and demon-drowe wardancers. Although it lacked a great many common soldiers in its ranks, the House’s mercenary contingent was respected and feared throughout Primus Below.

Over the course of several years, the House swelled in size, and ascended rapidly from the thirty-second House to the sixteenth house of the city. Several ‘priestesses’ of Lloth, relatives of Moraine, or females fortunate enough to be permitted to join House Despana after their own houses were destroyed, further bolstered the ranks.

Shortly after reaching this position in the Drowe hierarchy, with further ascendancy looking assured, Gideon Despana and several other males broke from the House and fled the city, joining other foolish males unwilling to accept their place within society and in the eyes of the Immortal Queen.

Moraine herself was taken to Lloth’s side, disappearing from House affairs for some years. During this time, Lord Argoth III, a powerful gift to Lloth and House Despana by the God of Murder, took up the mantle of Scion of House Despana. Under his guidance, bolstered by the still formidable array of psionic powers at the House’s disposal, House Despana held its place as the sixteenth house for some time.

The House was officially recognised as a Volksraad guild, it’s trade with the surface world making it a major force in the City Below.

However, without Moraine’s return, Lloth did not seem to favour the sixteenth house. Various prominent members did not feel the draw to return and defend the House. Lack of priestesses, lack of leadership, and lack of numbers has caused the House to fall into obscurity, perhaps the House as it was has been destroyed, its place taken by another…

But Lloth has not forsaken Despana, she still hears the pleas of her children. So, slowly the spiders reform, the children of House Despana flock together once more, waiting to rebuild their House and relive their former glories…

(I have no idea what the name of the city was, and this is the best I can remember... it's been about 7 years since Moraine was last seen, and 2 or 3 since the last Despana dungeon)
