Are there any laws concerning slavery in Primus?
I have a pair of characters planned who need to be played together, one being a bog-standard evil Assassin, the other being a mindlessly loyal slave/bodyguard/servant who has been brainwashed from birth and has zero free will (idea based on the character Charon from Fallout 3). While clearly a law forbidding slavery would not deter an evil assassin, knowledge of any relevent laws etc would benefit our roleplaying of these characters. |

Its against the law to 'trade' in slaves Mark the 'transaction' will have been made at an unseen event that is part of the characters' backstory. Does this mean that the assassin character will instantly be labelled as an outlaw, or only if he starts parading around shouting 'look everyone, I own a slave!' |

No, he's fine. It's trading them that's outlawed.

From a referee viewpoint funny you should ask that very question.
Anyways - the Ishmaics often trade in slaves, a trade not tolerated in the Empire. BBB -------------------- Grey's Law: Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice...

I think normally trading is done in out of the way places not under the empire's jurisdiction, such as Ishma. That being said I'm sure people have done dungeons based around slavers in the empire and I'm sure that you might be able to get your hands on slaves on the black market just not sure of prices. That being said I know a lot of characters that would take great exception to someone being a slave, so it could lead to some interesting discussions.
Also I think that slave trading, which is the illegal part, is quite heavily enforced where possible. The empire doesn't have a plethora of laws but the ones it does have are quite harsh, especially if you're not a noble. Stuart |

While not tolerated in the Empire, is it reasonable to assume a certain degree of underground slave trading still taking place? The penalties for getting caught are probably far too great for there to be any large amounts of slaving to take place within the Empire. Its not impossible just highly unlikely. You could use it as part of the character's background but be warned it could lead to a lot of IC friction on dungeon BBB -------------------- Grey's Law: Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice...

be warned it could lead to a lot of IC friction on dungeon Understandable, but its not as though I'm going to be walking around wearing a badge saying 'Hi, I am a Slave!' Plus anyone who does catch wind that Jareth is a slave and tries to set him free is likely to meet violent resistance from both Jareth and his master, since part of Jareth's mental conditioning will be to always defend his master from aggressors. eventually Jareth and his master are likely to both end up as ostracised outlaws anyway with the whole 'evil assassin and his henchman' thing. |

Slavery does happen. Indeed the islands of the cost of Bildteve (Western seaboard) were used for this purpose. Last year a slavery ring was caught and closed. It was operated by Ishmaics and some Imperial Nobles so it does happen.
Simply have it that you bought on one of these islands if you wish as there and hundreds of them and then borught to the Empire. Play what you want to. I think your doing the right thing to make sure it fits into the gameworld but remember the game world is there to be enriched by the players not to suffocate them. -------------------- - Pants

Thanks in advance Thomas Remember that the fantasy world is a feudal one. So punishment is up to the Magistrate. Most Magistrates are PC@s so they can be biased if they so desire. However most would come down on slavery hard as it goes against the Great Freedom. The nobles last caught I believe were sent to reside within the "the clink" in Bildteve. it is not a cushy scentance at all and information about it is on the Bildteve City forum. Price... no idea... few thousand maybe? -------------------- - Pants

Thanks in advance Thomas A single healthy slave retails in the Sunless for 10C each. I.e. 1,000Grulls. They have quite a "healthy" slave trade in the Sunless. Presuambly due to their Flesh Ritualism and Flesh Pits needing ritualcomponents / raw materials. I might have some notes somewhere that say how much they sell for in the Empire. I'll try and remember to have a dig around at some point. BBB -------------------- Grey's Law: Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice...

(moan=1)
I was hoping to have started this character by now but several factors have combined to make it not possible:
